Squaw Lake
Our resort is located on Squaw Lake with more than 500 feet of sugar-sand shoreline, offering spectacular swimming and water recreation.
Squaw Lake is 785 acres — approximately three and one-half miles long by one mile wide. Because it is not on a chain, it’s a peaceful, freshwater lake that offers plenty to explore without a lot of boat traffic.
Because the lake is shallow, 21-feet at maximum depth, and sandy bottomed, it freezes over in winter and is able to support a snowmobile trail that cuts through its center. It is also one of the first to experience "ice out" in the spring, and often, we're swimming by Memorial Day.
Like many lakes in the Northwoods, Squaw Lake is root beer-colored. The clean water is spring fed from three different sources. Squaw Creek runs from the north end of the lake out to Hwy. 70. It offers a great canoe or kayak trip with some excellent wildlife viewing. Bald eagles, loons, wood ducks, mallards and great blue herons nest along the creek and in several spots on this peaceful lake.
In addition, two islands area located in the southern portion of the lake. One of the islands is great for an afternoon picnic or even overnight camping.
Squaw Lake has no restrictions for certain types of water craft or lake activities; however, the lake association has requested that personal water craft (jet skis, wave runners) and water skiing are limited from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. All watercraft must also keep a respectable distance from docks, rafts and shoreline.

Fishing
Squaw is a class A muskie lake. It's also known for northern, walleye and crappie fishing.
Pan fish may be caught off the end of one of our two 85-foot T-docks (and then brought to dad to clean in the screened-in fish cleaning house on the shoreline.) Walleye bag limits (and other restrictions) are determined each spring and posted at the public boat landing on the west side of the lake.
Generally, walleye are plentiful, but small. In recent summers, we've seen a lot more perch and small mouth bass coming out of the water. But this is primarily a predator lake.
Fishing Hot Spots maps are available for sale at the resort office. Fishing licenses and live bait are available at nearby bait/tackle shops.
